Erectile dysfunction is one of the most common male sexual problems. It is defined an inability to achieve or sustain an erection for satisfactory sexual intercourse. It can occur at any age, although much more common in older men.
How can we treat erectile dysfunction?
The first and foremost recommendation to improve erectile dysfunction is to have some significant lifestyle changes! This would not only improve sexual function in men but will also prevent them from other ailments too. Include regular exercise in your daily routine. The workout should include high-intensity interval training, meaning that your heart rate should vary from time to time to burn maximum calories. It has been seen that weight loss may improve testosterone levels and thus help to improve sexual function as well. It has also been seen in a few research studies that smoking causes erectile dysfunction, so quitting smoking may help to improve the conditions. Now coming to the medical treatment of erectile dysfunction, phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors have been proven to be beneficial. The drugs include sildenafil, vardenafil, and tadalafil, etc.
How do PDE-5 inhibitors work?
Phosphodiesterase inhibitors like sildenafil work by causing vasodilation i.e they make your penile blood vessels wide so that more blood can enter the penis and the circulation improves to maintain an erection.
