If we go by popular culture the answer would be hands down the former, right?

Thousands of scenes in cinema—be it Hollywood, Bollywood, Tollywood or Anywood—have celebrated the thrill of spontaneous sex. You know the scene well. Two people experience powerful attraction, and do not know what to do with it. They may even be denying it. And then the moment happens when all reservations are cast aside and they simply go for it.

On the other hand, the couple planning sex is depicted as too organised. The sex is expected to be unimaginative, and mostly boring.

Well, new research by York University, published in the Journal of  Sex Research found that it is not really so. To put it directly, they found that planned sex can be just as satisfying, and indeed just as ‘sexy’ as spontaneous sex.

“What our new study found was that while many people do endorse the ideal of spontaneous sex, there was no difference in their reported satisfaction of their last actual sexual encounter – whether it was planned or unplanned,” Kovacevic, one of the researchers said, as quoted in The New York Post.

The idea of spontaneous, no holds barred, devil may care sex will likely continue to be compelling as it shapes our imagination, but couples trying to reignite the spark could do well to look at research, and be confident about their own deliberate quest.
